Brookline Terraced Garden

A traditional picket fence with oversized columns and matching redbud trees frame the view to this traditional colonial private residence.  The bluestone and brick walkway welcomes visitors from the street on axis with the formal front door.  Wisteria is trained and carefully managed to add whimsy to the traditional architecture.

The sloping topography in the backyard is retained to create terraced garden rooms.  The lowest terrace accommodates casual seating and an outdoor kitchen with herb gardens close to the house.  Reclaimed granite curb steps navigate the grade to the upper terrace where Adirondack chairs surround a rough-cut granite slab fire pit.  Special care was taken to preserve the mature crabapple tree, maintaining a sense of maturity in the garden while providing an organic focal point.
