The Girard

Offshoots developed a modular, low-maintenance planting plan capable of withstanding tough urban conditions for The Girard, a mixed-use development in Boston’s South End. Urban conditions are hard on plants so special care was used to select species that are low-maintenance, heat tolerant, have interesting foliage and seasonal interest (to eliminate the need for annual plantings). All plant beds have a thick layer of groundcover that will quickly grow in and reduce the need for mulch. By planting appropriate plants for the site conditions the owner will have a fraction of the maintenance and upkeep that they would with a traditional lawn and annual plantings – better for the budget and the environment.

The roof deck was designed to take advantage of the Boston skyline while being surrounded by a bright, lush garden of drought-tolerant annual plants.
